Philippine Madrigal Singers at the PGG

MADZ
The world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers, popularly known as MADZ, will be singing at the 11:00 o’clock Sunday Mass service at the Kapistran Churh in Forsthausgasse, in Vienna’s 20th district. MADZ will also be performing a concert of Filipino and popular songs on Friday, 10 August, at the Pfarre Breitenfeld Kirche, or the Josefstäter Church by the metro line U6.

MADZ is the most awarded and acclaimed choir in Asia, having consistently won all the prizes in the most prestigious choral competitions for many years. Because of their impressive track record and musical virtuosity, the Philipppine Madrigal Singers is now regarded as the one of the world’s best choirs. The group performs a variety of styles and forms but specializes in the madrigal, a polyphonic and challenging musical style popular during the Renaissance where singers and guests would gather around the table during a banquet to sight-sing and make music together. This served as the inspiration for their unique style of singing – singing in a semi-circle without a conductor.

MADZ last perfomed in Vienna in 1998, so this concert promises to be a memorable evening of song. The concert begins at 18:00 hours; everyone is invited to come.

They’ve won the 19th European Grand Prix for Choral Singing last August 26 in Arezzo Italy! They now have the distinction of being the ONLY choir to have won the Grand Prix twice….truly the world’s best choir.
